Mark embarked on the path to becoming an artist when, as a young child, he displayed his paintings alongside his father’s art at Art in the Park in Stratford, Ontario. Early encouragement from his parents helped lead him to a lifetime of artistic pursuits. Mark’s heritage is uniquely Canadian.
He is a fifth-generation descendent of escaped slaves from Virginia on his mother’s side, and a second-generation descendent of Polish immigrants on his father’s side; moreover, both of his parents are talented artists in their own right. Vestiges of this remarkable lineage are evident in everything he creates.
